My methods may not be the best, but I thought it wise to make a comment concerning my Bible study. Generally speaking it is rather simple. I usually use some Bible software and try to keep notes of anything that I think I might want to find later. I used to use Quickverse. It is great software if you use a PC. Since I switched to using Linux for my main computer operating system I had to make some changes. E-Sword runs in WINE on Ubuntu just fine. I also have been using Bible Analyzer quite a bit lately. If you use a PC Bible Soft has the exhaustive Strong's Concordance and Englishman's as well and they are linked to all included Bible versions. I did buy Logos a few years ago. Logos was bought by another company and sorry, but I am not impressed. Whatever software you use, look to the word, not commentaries.
The idea of bouncing through many versions is not my preferred method. All I would be doing is seeing what someone thought the Bible should say or get a different word that does not violate a copyright. What would be more valuable is to look at the definition of the Hebrew or Greek word and see how it works in any given verse. I have been using only Strong's because that is all I have had. That is one reason for adding Bible Soft. Bible software is also great for word and phrase searches. I can read every verse that has the word "baptism" in it in a much shorter time. I can also search for variations of words using wild cards. Try this one " *leaven* ". By putting the * (star) before and after the word leaven I get every variation of that word.
I do not use commentaries of any kind. When I tell people that I don't use them they tell me I am missing out on volumes of wisdom from men who have gone through it all before me. I tell them that I am missing out on their errors. That is a simplification however. I know that many of them were wise men and had the best intentions. The problem is a matter of timing. As we get closer to the "end time" for this age I believe that Yahweh is revealing more and more of the depth of his Word to us. Because of that the writings of the commentaries are found to be inaccurate because of what was not known when they were written.
Well, that is how I have been doing it the last several years. Yahweh may use someone reading this to show me something better?
